Resolving this matter without violence was a very distant possibility from reality. The soldiers seemed unwilling to move from there.
“This is not a matter of customs, my dear fellows.” I said, with a smile, trying to be kind, forcing myself not to lose my composure. “It is a matter of duty. Your duty, soldiers, is to the queen. You must follow my orders.”
They listened. However, they were still completely unwilling to move out of my way. They just looked, as if nothing scared them. I didn’t want to spill blood in vain.
Carmen looked at me in dismay. This was a problem.
“Lady Carmen,” I ordered, with the severity that characterized me. “Tell King Jacob to come here right now. I suppose the soldiers will want to know that the king is coming to see why my will is not being done.”
My voice echoed. With severity, I was showing myself inflexible. I looked for the reaction of the soldiers. Carmen obeyed, walking away to fulfill her part of the plan
