“What do you think would happen if I hit you and you hit me at the same time?” Larry asked, looking at me with a sinister laugh.

“My power is greater than yours.” I rolled my eyes. “Would you be so stupid as to die like that?”

It was a lie, of course. I didn’t even know. But if Larry attacked me, he would win because he was a soldier with more battle experience. I thought about it on the trip and realized that if we faced each other, he would use that to his advantage.

“How can you know that?” he asked, with his characteristic cynicism. “We should try it.”

“Why?” I asked, looking at him with a certain disdain. “If you plan to kill me anyway.”

That surprised him. He couldn’t hide the fact that he was stunned. You didn’t have to be a genius to realize that. The idiot thought I gave him the dagger just like that. Maybe I was naive sometimes, but not with those who were once my enemies.
