Begging for my life was not something I thought I would have to do. Ironically, because it was obvious. It was naive to believe that I would be accepted into the opposing camp without having to beg for my life. The pain ran through my body from head to toe. It incinerated me from the inside, every organ in my interior seemed to be burning. When he stopped torturing me, the relief was almost immediate.
He wasn’t like Plettekman. His way of surrounding himself with people was entirely different. He had a strange relationship with Jason, almost paternal. Like a father scolding his foolish son by misfortune.
And he wasn’t an arrogant despot like Plettekman. He seemed more like a deity, something neutral, implacable, but he conveyed a deeper sense of sanity.
His eyes were penetrating. He made me feel exposed. When Jason recounted what had happened, he seemed interested.
“Your name.” He said, looking at me fixedly, almost touching me with his snout.
