Chapter 18
Sofia's eyes widened in horror as the monstrous figure advanced, its twisted features cast in stark relief by the feeble glow of the streetlight. A low, guttural growl rumbled from its massive chest, sending shivers racing down her spine.
"Now, now, no need for alarm," the creature rasped, baring wicked fangs in a perverse semblance of a grin. "I merely want what's best for you, my dear."
Sofia's mind raced, desperately seeking an escape route, but the hulking form blocked her only path out of the alley. She pressed herself tighter against the unyielding bricks, fighting the scream that threatened to erupt from her constricted throat.
"What's best for me?" she managed, her voice a mere whisper. "How could a... a monster like you possibly know what's best?"
