Chapter 22

Sofia looked at Juan in the eyes and wondered if Juan was right about Mateo being a werewolf with no guidance or lack.

Slowly, Sofia felt a weight of responsibility settle onto her shoulders. Mateo's future, his very safety, may depend on her ability to reason with him.

Swallowing hard, she gave Juan a determined nod. "I'll try. For all our sakes, I have to try. But, how can you be sure that he is a lonewolf with no pack.

Juan gripped her shoulder firmly. "I just feel so because I have never heard of him before."

Sofia could see where Juan's conclusions were coming from, but she didn't see it as a solid reason for him to assume that.

"But that isn't what is important now," Juan brought her to the present. What is important now is bringing Mateo to me and making sure that he is on our side."

Swallowing hard, she gave Juan a determined nod. "I'll try. For all our sakes, I have to try.
