Celeste’s POV
Mirael had just dispatched most of the Dreadmaw pack werewolves that were attacking our city.
“Wow, that’s incredible,” I said to her, breath catching. “I’ve never seen anyone use magic like that before.”
Eryndor glanced over, admiration in his eyes. “I can’t believe magic actually carries over with the soul when they reincarnate. You’re using the same technique my sister employed to save me years ago.”
Mirael’s face lit up in a genuine smile.
“I just don’t like the idea of bringing civilians into a war zone,” she began to explain, steadying her stance. “Now we just have to—”
Before she could finish, two blades shot into her back and burst out through her chest. None of us had sensed any warning. A swirling black portal ripped open in midair, and from its depths stepped a dark-skinned boy with spiky white-and-black hair. He wore a black military uniform studded with glowing red gemstones.
“Neuralgia,” he whispered to Mir
