The room looked familiar; it felt warm and welcoming; it felt like home, and the bed felt so comfortable beneath my body. There was no doubt in my mind that I was back home and in Kai's room. Everything came rushing back, starting with stripping my mom of her magic and her wolf before I fell down and got sucked into darkness.
"You are awake!" Ronan shouted, but the enthusiasm felt like it was measured.
"You got us worried, baby," Kai added, his lips spreading into a smile that barely reached his eyes. Behind them was Maribel, her eyes lighting up just slightly before another darker emotion took over, one that she tried hiding with a cough.
"My child," she called. "I'm glad you are up, I'll go bring you something to eat," she said, then walked out, but nothing about her demeanour or voice showed any gladness
