Chapter 69
Jack Holly was more or less an enigma in Los Angeles. Nobody knew exactly where he had come from or who he was before becoming a police officer. Some information had begun to leak about Jack in his third year at the Los Angeles Police Department. The information was nasty, but nothing could be directly pinned on him. That did not mean that he was not guilty; Jack just had a way of avoiding things that would stain his already blackened reputation.
His Chief superintendent at that time had been a lady named Deborah McDonald. She had been a very stern woman, and nobody in the Police Department really liked her. But that did not mean that everybody did not respect and obey her. Deborah, despite her small frame, had a way of making sure that anybody who tried to get in her way or disrespect her was duly punished. She used her position to its fullest and did not desist from making threats whenever she felt it was necessary.
