Carlos was glad to find that the investigations of the painting they had acquired at the midnight ball were finally yielding success. He was even more pleased to discover that the initial speculation had been correct. The secret this painting was hiding was the key to diamonds—lots of diamonds. His men had spent two nights at a resort on the west coast, relaxing and investigating.
The loot was hidden near a resort that used to be an old seaside mansion. Some of the original castle-like structure had been fixed up and kept as a central attraction for an extremely modern resort. The place where the diamonds were kept had only one entrance—a tunnel that went on for miles and was difficult to access because its entrance was hidden in plain sight and needed a lot of planning and influence to be used without drawing a lot of attention.
