Chapter 44. The Grand Jury
Carlos knew that his cover as the Twin was blown the first time he could walk on his own and pull open the door of his recovery room. Huge guards were lined up from one end of the hall to the other. And he’d had to complain about the whirring of the many CCTV cameras outside his windows because the sound they made as they turned their mechanical heads made it into his dreams at night.
The doctor had found it interesting to know because apparently, he shouldn’t have been able to hear all twelve of them, three at most, even though the sounds those three made were not particularly loud.
They all knew Carlos had always had a keen ear and a knack for creeping about silently, but it seemed to have increased after all he’d suffered at the hands of the Torturer.
