A young man was standing guard at a warehouse near the ocean. He was newly recruited to this job and had never heard a thing about the New York underworld. His friend got him the job, some guy he knew in college and got reunited with after losing his job as a bodyguard to some young, snotty celebrity. This job was easy and paid ridiculously well. He’d questioned his friend about the authenticity when he first heard the pay. The dude had told him with a hush-hush expression, “This job’s got risks.”
“Of course it’s got risks,” he’d replied. “It’s a guard job. You wouldn’t have to guard a thing if there weren’t risks.”
His friend had patted him on the back and said, “Glad you get it. You’re lucky, you know, that you got this job, and I’m lucky that I found you when I did. I know you’re capable, at least.”
“It’s not illegal, is it?” he’d asked his friend.
“Illegal? Pfft. No! Not at all. Is it illegal to guard something?”
“No,”
