Chapter 84. 2 AM Talks
Fiona had begun her trip in Vegas with tears and had ended it with tears, but when she left the city, she was inconsolable. The guilt haunted her constantly when she returned to Atlanta, where she worked. She found herself going over what she could’ve done differently that would have helped the Twin to stay alive.
The easiest solution was that she ought to have told him the truth. She would stay awake at night for weeks, and the words from that conversation they’d had at two in the morning would echo through her room, and she would find herself sobbing.
“Sometimes I look at…my twin,” he’d said that night in the silence and safety they had created between themselves. “I look at the person I am expected to be, and I wonder if I can ever be that person. I wanted to do the best and make certain people proud, but doing the best I can isn’t always easy because as much as I tell myself that I don’t mind, what I’m doing is not…right.”
