Seventeen years later
“Carrie?” I called out as I saw her stomping past the window. She did not stop, but a few moments later, I heard my mother enter the room. She looked exhausted and drained. I knew then that they must have had yet another disagreement. My father, Alpha Aaron, was away on a business meeting and had left me to help my mother with anything she needed.
“Luke, did you see where Carrie went?” she looked worried, and I was sure Carrie would not want to be disturbed if she were in a terrible mood. Everyone in our pack knew how bad Carrie’s temper could be.
“I saw her storming out the front door,” I replied, feeling a sense of guilt, knowing I should probably go after her and make sure she was okay. But I also knew Carrie needed space when upset, so I hesitated.
