Erv’s expression didn’t change and his smile remained. “Fortunately for me, this is not just ‘any reason’, is it? It is a small price and you know it.”

“For kidnapping my wife?” Cole’s voice dropped, dangerously.

“For killing two of my wolves on my land,” Erv corrected calmly.

The temperature in the room seemed to drop. Cole stood slowly. “I will not give you Ironwood land. Anything but that.”

Erv tilted his head slightly. “Bring her here again.”

The side doors opened again and Aria was dragged back in. This time the female guard held a silver blade to her throat. The metal touched her skin and faint smoke curled upward.

Aria flinched sharply, breath hitching. Cole went absolutely still, hating where he was at that very moment. His wolf roared inside him.

Erv just looked at him pleasantly. “Now consider your answer again, Cole. If you won’t give me what I want, she has no value to me then. And no one without value breaths in my pack.”
