Selena recovered first and she let out a soft laugh under her breath and lifted a hand, brushing her fingers gently through his hair. Her touch was light, affectionate, and completely satisfying. A warm smile spread across her face as she looked down at him.

“That was so good,” she murmured.

He groaned quietly in response, finally pushing himself up with effort. Once he trusted his arms again, he shifted off her and leaned back against the pillows, letting the support of them take some of the strain off his back.

The relief was immediate. He exhaled slowly, closing his eyes for a moment but the calm didn’t last. The moment the physical tension faded, the thoughts he had been avoiding crept back in.
