“I can walk to the clinic by myself.”

Sloane’s irritated voice reached me before the door opened.

A second later, Ryan guided her into my office.

She stopped when she saw Daphne already seated across from my desk with a folder in her lap.

Then she looked at me.

“What is this?”

“Thank you, Ryan.”

He gave me a short nod and stepped back into the corridor.

The door closed.

Sloane folded her arms.

“I was on my way to the clinic.”

“I know.”

“Then why did Ryan bring me here?”

I gestured toward the chair beside Daphne.

“Sit down. Your results are here.”

For a moment, she didn’t move.

Then she crossed the room and sat.

Daphne opened the folder.

“The result is inconclusive.”

Sloane’s expression changed.

“What does that mean?”

“The hormone level is very low. It could indicate a very early pregnancy, but one sample isn’t enough to confirm it.”
