Chapter 32. He’s the Master
Calla’s eyes followed Rico as he stood up, his back still to her. He emptied the contents of the glass down his throat, then slowly turned to her.
She swallowed hard as his dark eyes fully came into view. She couldn’t speak.
A thin grin sat on his face and he blinked lazily. He set the glass on the desk and took steady—yet heavy—steps towards Calla.
“Calla?” He called out, his voice deep and low.
She swallowed and tried to speak, but her voice vanished, leaving her alone in this.
“Do you need me to remind you who you are and your purpose here?” He asked.
Calla shook her head. She was annoyed he had gone there, it was a habit of his. But where was the lie?
“I don’t,” she replied flatly.
He took one step at a time, placing the cigar between his lips and taking a long drag, then he exhaled the thick smoke through his nose. It was unhurried… like a warning.
