Chapter 39. Karma
“I didn’t know I would come here without being summoned either,” Calla murmured, finally finding her words, surprised that it didn’t come out cracked. She shivered with fear on the inside, and her eyes avoided his.
She watched as Rico cocked his head to the side, his hollowed dark eyes scanning her from her head to her toes and then back up. She shuddered even more under his piercing gaze.
Rico pulled to his feet, his empty chest in full view. He pressed the butt of the cigar onto the ashtray and then moved towards her. His red and black inked tattoos hypnotized her, luring her into his trap. She gulped again, her eyes glued to his hard muscles.
He reached her, standing just three inches away from her. Calla’s eyes still on his chest, she didn’t dare look into his eyes.
“Why are you here, Lyra?” He growled. There, he called her by her real name again.
He was too close to her, his morning scent tangling her sense of reasoning. She tried to move backwards
