Chapter 68. Diamonds
Calla had successfully put Eli to bed. He was getting bigger by the day, so carrying him had become a little difficult. It ached her heart that her once little brother isn’t little anymore.
She remembered how she used to lift him off the floor when he was still a toddler, and her parents were still alive.
She sat beside him on the bed, her fingers gently pushing away the curls that had strayed to his face. She was so careful with it, to avoid waking him up.
A faint smile pulls at her lips as she stares at how peaceful he looked while asleep. She promised to protect his innocence, and that’s what she’ll do until the day she leaves this earth.
She brought the blanket over his body, gently tugging it on each side. Then she switched off the lamp and quietly left his room.
