Chapter 96. Figure in the Dark
The abandoned factory sat far outside town, cut off from the city and its noise. Finding it hadn’t been easy, but after an hour and thirty minutes, Calla finally arrived. She stepped out of the cab, paid the driver, and turned to face the building.
She pulled the face cap lower, covering her face better, took a deep breath, and walked toward the entrance. The cap and sweatshirt felt like a bit much, but they were meant to be a disguise—something to help her slip past anyone who might be watching or following her.
Yet from the moment she left her house, she hadn’t felt a single presence. No shadows and no footsteps. Nothing like before, when Rico’s men always seemed to be nearby, watching her every move.
A quiet sigh left her lips. Maybe he’d only had them watch her because he thought she might run. Maybe it was just because the contract was still new.
