Book Six: Chapter 42
“There were too many people,” Yuki said sharply before the spirit could speak, her voice cutting through the cold, damp air that seemed to cling to the edges of the room. Her tails twitched nervously behind her, brushing against the floor with a soft, almost inaudible swish. She felt the lingering heat of residual magic thrumming faintly through her veins, a subtle reminder of the power she could summon if needed.
“You shed your humanity in order to hide from community,” the spirit countered, its voice echoing unnaturally, reverberating against the walls and rattling Yuki’s ears.
“I am just as much a fox as a human. I don’t have to choose, you floating bag of farts. Now, where is Mike?” she snapped, leaning forward and snarling, letting her sharp canine teeth glint under the dim light. Her ears flattened slightly as her anger surged. “What have you done with him?”
