Chapter 17. Crazy for a Kiss
“You’re disgusting!” Jacqueline couldn’t help but blurt out. Gilbert chuckled at her reaction.
“How? I just meant that I’d hold the cake gently between my lips and you could just bite off the other end. What did you think?” Jacqueline blushed crimson. Oh! So that’s what he meant? She had thought. Oh, never mind. Still, it was disgusting.
“Sorry to disturb you, Mom and Dad. I just need a slice of cake,” said a grinning Maddox as he came into the kitchen to grab a slice. Taking advantage of the momentary distraction, Jacqueline scooted to the far end of the kitchen with the cake, serving Maddox a slice. Then she walked out with him.
“What? Won’t you taste a piece?” asked Gilbert.
“No, you can finish the rest. As if you’d let me eat anything,” said Jacqueline.
“Please help yourself. I was just joking,” said Gilbert, going after her. Jacqueline ran up the stairs to her new room, where Melania and Margaret were arranging her stu
