Chapter 37. The Truth Comes Out
After an entire night of fitful sleep, everyone’s eyes flew open hearing a gunshot in the wee hours of the morning. Jacqueline went to the kid’s room to comfort them. Even Gilbert’s parents and Margaret went to the kid’s room and sat trembling with fear. Christian wanted to go outside with Gilbert, but it was too risky and he didn’t agree.
Gilbert called the security guards to ask what had happened. “Sir, a masked man had shot one of our men. He’s slightly injured as the bullet brushed past his arm. The man left a note for you,” said the guard.
“Has he left?” asked Gilbert.
“Yes, sir,” said the guard. Gilbert went outside to check up on the guard who was shot at. He met the guard and checked his wound. The bullet had just scraped his arm. Gilbert knew that Joe Stratham could have shot him dead. He wanted to convey a threat to Gilbert, so he only shot the guard in the same way that the police had shot him.
“We have called the cops, sir. They’re on their way,”
