Chapter 15
Vera’s POV
I made dinner and we ate in silence.
It felt strange, being strangers again, especially after thinking we were finally getting along, right before the crash. Just hours ago, things were smoother, even warm between us. Now the cold tension between us sat heavier than any silence I’d ever known.
Tim is a great kid. I won’t deny that Jackson did a damn good job raising him. After dinner, Tim even helped me clean up in the kitchen without being asked.
There are ten bedrooms in this mansion. Ten. That alone made me wonder, why would someone who doesn’t have a real family or live-in staff buy such a ridiculously large house? There’s no one else here except his son. Who was he trying to impress?
When he showed me the bedroom, the one he’d paid someone to clean up just for me, he tried to speak again. He tried to explain. I shut him down. I didn’t even let him finish.
I was on the verge of exploding.
