Chapter 38

Vera's POV

"You don’t have any right to lecture me!" I pointed a warning finger at her face.

"I'm glad there's someone as stubborn as you!"

I spun around as the door creaked open and a familiar voice chuckled from the doorway. My heart skipped. I had a mouthful of questions ready for Hannah, but I froze when her two little soldiers burst into the room.

"There's no escape, sweetheart. They’ve missed you, and I’m tired of telling them someone who’s never going to visit is still coming!" Hannah said with a laugh as her husband walked in after her.

"Hello, dear. It’s been a while," Oscar greeted with his usual warmth.

"You came too? Wow! Now I’ve got a full house. Did you all gang up on me?" I asked, pulling him in for a hug.

He chuckled and kissed my cheek. "No, they keep asking about you. We had no choice. I’ll be heading out now."

Tasha and Rowley ran over, throwing themselves into my arms. I kissed each of their cheeks
