Chapter 41
The air smelled nice in spite of the sleety rain that fell impartially on the cars in the parking lot and on the high-rise building in front of me. St. Jude’s high school was a private day school located in Manhattan, New York.
St. Jude’s high school was founded in 1948 by a group of British expatriates led by my grandfather on his sojourn into the United States. It was one of the oldest schools in the country and one of the most prestigious as well.
Jake shivered as he wrapped his arms around his waist. He had always hated the cold weather because it made him fall sick every year. He fervently prayed that this year would be an exception. He brought out a cigarette from his backpack and lit one. Smoking was prohibited on the school grounds, but he had a habit of breaking school rules, and since he couldn’t get kicked out of school due to his status as the governor’s son, he was allowed to do whatever he pleased.
Jake took a long drag of his cigarette as he watched
