Chapter 28. With the Metaphysic

Kit hugged her knees and felt the warmth of the fire in front of her. Phi and Flame sat opposite her. It was so quiet, the only sounds were those of the night animals. As for where Yasmin had gone, Kit had only heard that she had left with someone named Sethi. Kit didn't even know who else it was.

There were two more Metaphysic figures that Kit had never met. Even the last one, whose name she had never heard. There were no hints from either Phi or Flame, as if they were keeping something secret among the Metaphysics. This worried Kit because she felt very weak.

No strength, no weapons to defend herself.

"Are you hungry?" asked Flame.

Kit didn't answer, as she was busy wandering and staring at the embers.

"Hey, Kit. Are you hungry?" repeated Flame.

Realizing Flame was asking her, Kit looked up. She shook her head. "Not really."

Who could be hungry after the events of this afternoon, filled with spilled blood and pieces of flesh everywhere. Not to me
