Chapter 36. Reaching Winner's Gate

Aamon held Kyra's pace as they nearly reached the edge of the forest and the Winner's Gate. The young man could smell the thick scent of blood. Something was happening up ahead. Kyra stopped, alert as she heard the sounds of shouting and screaming.

"What is it, Aamon?" whispered Kyra, starting to get scared.

"This can't be good."

Kyra looked at Aamon unsure. "I ask a question and you answer something else," she said irritated.

"Out there, people seem to be slaughtering each other."

"What?"

"Wait here."

"Where are you going? Aamon."

Aamon put his index finger to his lips, signaling Kyra to be quiet. The young man climbed the tree so easily, then climbed up and jumped to the highest branch. From the top of the tree, Aamon surveyed the situation in the Winner's Gate area. Apparently, his hunch was right.
