Elena’s POV
The moment I realized my phone had no signal, a tight knot formed in my chest. My pulse raced as I hurried back toward the cabin, my stomach twisting with unease. Just as I reached the study, Eric stepped out, calm as ever.
“No signal,” I blurted, my voice sharper than I intended. “I can’t reach anyone.”
Eric appeared in the doorway of the study, his expression calm. “I noticed,” he said lightly. “The mountains block signals sometimes. Nothing unusual.”
I took a shaky breath, my stomach twisting. “This doesn’t feel right. We shouldn’t be completely cut off. Could you… maybe have Nova send a couple of guards? Just as a backup?”
He raised an eyebrow, walking over to me. His fingers brushed a strand of hair from my face, gentle but deliberate. “You’re worried? About me? About us being alone up here?”
