Elena’s POV

May dragged me halfway down the corridor before she suddenly stopped. We were already close to Eric’s temporary office—the one the staff had hurriedly set up for him near the private wing. The guards stood a little farther away this time, distracted, and the door wasn’t fully shut.

May lifted a finger, eyes sharp. Wait. I frowned at her, but before I could ask what she was doing, a familiar voice drifted out. Eric.

“…the summit isn’t about politics or alliances,” he was saying. His tone was low, controlled, but heavy with something I couldn’t place. “I’m pulling every medical authority in the world into one room because I need answers. Real ones.”

I felt my chest tighten.

Sara’s voice followed, calm and intimate. “You’re doing all this because of her?”

“Yes.” No hesitation. “Elena’s condition isn’t normal. The wound should’ve closed days ago. I’m not waiting until it’s too late.” May slowly turned to look at me, eyes wide.
