Chapter 85. Fading Strength

Elena’s POV

With May’s words echoing in my mind, I turned toward my hospital room, my head spinning from the revelation that my life was hanging by a thread. May followed right behind, her steps quick and purposeful. I didn’t care to hear what Eric and Sara were saying anymore; it wasn’t my business. Not now.

But before I could close the door, it swung open with a sharp push, and Eric stormed in. His eyes locked on me, burning with a mix of anger and concern. “What is this?” he growled. “Are you doubting me now? You don’t trust me?”

“This isn’t about trust, Eric,” I snapped, my voice shaking with frustration. “It’s about my life, my body! I deserve to know what’s happening to me. I deserve to have a say instead of being kept in the dark and…” I paused, glaring at him. “...teaming up with your ex-wife.”

“I was only doing what I thought was best to protect you,” he said, his voice low, carrying both frustration and something deeper—care, maybe even fear.
