DAHLIA
My entire body went rigid.
I closed my eyes for a second, counted to three, and turned slowly, arms crossed.
Adrian had already stepped out of his car, one hand shoved into his pocket, the other holding his keys. His expression was smug, like he knew exactly how irritated I was just by breathing the same air as him.
“What do you want?” I snapped.
He leaned against his car door, that infuriating grin spreading across his face. “That’s not how you greet someone who’s been trying to reach you all day.”
“I turned my phone off for a reason,” I said flatly.
“Yeah, I figured.” He tilted his head slightly, studying me like I was some sort of puzzle he couldn’t quite solve. “Rough night?”
I didn’t respond. I didn’t need to. My silence was enough.
He took a step closer, ignoring the way I stiffened. “You look like hell, Dahlia.”
“Wow,” I said dryly. “You sure know how to make a girl feel better.”
