I’d been lying in bed for hours. I mean since I returned from that awful date last night. My curtains were drawn, the room dim and heavy, and the only sound was the faint hum of traffic outside. My laptop sat unopened on my desk. My phone? Somewhere under the pile of pillows. It hadn’t buzzed all day. That’s because I put it off anyway. I didn’t go to class. I didn’t even have the energy to pretend like I cared.

Izzy had tried. God, she really had. She brought me snacks, cracked jokes, even put on a movie she swore would “heal my heart and my GPA at once.” Nothing worked. I was too far gone in my thoughts… angry, hurt, and humiliated all over again.
