Chapter 156
SEBASTIAN
Morning didn’t arrive gently.
It crashed into me with the force of everything I’d survived in the last eighteen hours.
My head throbbed in a slow, punishing rhythm, the kind that reminded me I hadn’t slept… not really. I’d only closed my eyes for a few minutes at a time in that stiff hospital chair, waking every time Kenna shifted or Diego muttered under his breath.
Eighteen hours.
God.
It already felt like a week.
After Diego got that call yesterday… the one announcing Kenna’s arrest… everything had spiralled with cruel efficiency. We’d driven to the station, where she sat on a bench looking equal parts furious and exhausted, her knuckles still red from the beating she gifted Loren.
I didn’t know whether to be impressed or terrified.
The officers let her go after Diego pulled every detective string he had. The second we stepped outside, the argument exploded.
Diego scolded her for getting herself into trouble.
