The hospital was quiet in the late evening.
I had been awake for hours, though I hadn’t moved much beyond the hospital bed.
Not because I couldn’t… even the doctors said I’ve had great improvement… but because Diego won’t let me. He’s afraid I’d sneak away to check up on Dahlia, spoiling his plan.
Jack came back to the hospital; he left just about two hours ago.
“The job is done,” he said softly, voice low, urgency in every syllable. “Luckily, Alex showed up at her dorm.”
I sat up slowly, still weak, wincing as my muscles protested. “He did?” I rasped.
“Yes. I believe he took the bait.” He glanced at Diego, who nodded slightly, a silent confirmation.
Jack stepped closer, lowering his voice even further. “Alex isn’t going to rest. He’s going to try something… tonight.”
I froze. My heart kicked up, my pulse quickening despite the soreness in my chest and shoulders. “Tonight? Are you sure he knows I’m alive?”
