Chapter 21
Smiling like a real psychopath, I retrieve the card from her trembling hands and hide it in her pants pocket. Candice opens her mouth to say something and I feel, after so long since my father was at the clinic, the same feeling of looking through a cone. I am aware of details of which I would not give the slightest importance if I were in my normal state. The sounds become distant, the room seems to shrink and a cold sweat runs down my spine.
I lean on the wall and use one of my hands to massage my throbbing temple. My tremor begins to spread all over my body, even affecting my ability to keep me on my feet. My knees falter. A rumble of wings echoes in my head and my vision is blurred. Not now, please, not now. With a buzz that makes me feel the walls shudder, my hearing returns and my wide eyes return to the orbits slowly.
