Chapter 4
MELISSA
With the cell phone in my hands, a laugh escapes me as I think that no one in my life has ever called me Miss. Not knowing what to do, and still undecided about replying to the unknown man, I get out of bed and quickly do my morning hygiene. When I leave the room, I find Maggie stirring something on the stove, already dressed in her work clothes.
“Good morning!”
“Good morning, Mel! Oh, I have to tell you something!” she says, picking up her phone from the counter and typing before continuing:
“Someone from the site has already contacted me!” she says, smiling and showing me the photo of a brown-haired guy.
“That’s good. Has he replied yet?”
“Not yet, but what about you? Did you register on the site?” I don’t answer, but her green eyes quickly notice my restlessness.
“Oh my God! You did, didn’t you?” she asks, and I start telling her about the old man and the mysterious, polite guy.
