Chapter 25
Sam held her head and began saying, “Oh my God. Oh my God.”
A trembling hand gripped my cold ones, and James quivered, “What do we do? This is... they-they’re gonna kill us? Like right now?”
Verity opened her mouth to say something, but just then, a loud bang came from the door, and this was a bang unlike any other. This was a bang that suggested they had all intent on entering the house and, as Mr. Fremund said, finishing the job.
We fell silent immediately. James shuddered and squeezed my hand super tightly. Mr. Fremund made a gesture that said we should follow him, and fearfully, we did, shuffling away with our eyes still glued to the black-lipped individuals by the window. When we got to the sitting room, Mr. Fremund simply instructed, “Take your seats and don’t make a sound,” he paused, “I’m going to talk to them.”
