Epilogue
It was less than ten minutes to the start of the game, and Sergio held my phone in front of me as I battled to put on my socks and shin guard. The person on the other side was James, and he was telling me to stay calm and believe in myself, but I just couldn’t.
This was the first time I was playing in four months, and I was certain I was going to fuck things up if only a little.
“You doubt yourself too much, babe,” he was saying, “You’re a total badass. I don’t know why you can’t see it.”
Sergio snorted, “That was exactly what I told him yesterday and the day before that. Shit, you fucking saved our lives that day.”
I knew the day he was talking about, but I couldn’t remember much of it. But whatever happened, it was the reason I had a bump the size of a country on my forehead.
James chuckled at whatever it was that Sergio said and repeated for the umpteenth time, “You got this, babe. I believe in you, and I love you.”
