“Did they treat you well, ma petite?” Maman, the former tzarina, a formidable and shrewd woman, murmured softly while she combed her daughter’s hair. They were at the plane’s largest cabin while their men were having a private meeting.
The drama, one that could rival any Mexican soap, left Doc, Beau, and her, the lost mafia princess, drained.
Dinara swallowed the lump of emotions clogging her throat, nodded, then looked away. “They were...kind.” Though she wanted to say more, those were the only words that came out of her lips. She could not not recall everything that had happened to her and not cry. Everything was still too fresh. She mostly regretted leaving without telling the kind ladies and Tio. They must be worried sick right now. She only hoped they had found the letter she wrote them.
Taking a deep breath, she managed to move her dry lips, her small smile of reassurance calmed her mother and the ladies hovering around her.
