Chapter 34. Remembering: pt. 1
“Here we are.” Nathan stopped the car when they reached the junction.
Belle quickly stepped out. The entire drive had been awkward for her, and she was relieved to finally be free of the confined silence.
“Thanks.” She smiled at him before closing the car door.
She stood there for a moment, watching as the car pulled away and disappeared down the street. Only then did she turn and walk toward her apartment building, her steps slow, her thoughts scattered.

Ben stepped out of the car after the driver opened the door for him. He was already on a call, speaking to his assistant, instructing her to cancel his schedule for the next three hours. He had almost forgotten about his plan to visit his adoptive mother, something he rarely allowed himself the time to do.
