Chapter 50
“I can walk,” she murmured dazedly, her unfocused eyes resting on his swollen eye and cheek.
“No.” The word came out clipped, harsher than he intended as he gathered her to his chest, the thought of being out of contact with her untenable.
Carefully exiting the car, he carried her up the stairs, her silence and the vacantness in her eyes worrying the hell out of him. Asshole was waiting inside the door to the loft, but at the sight of Joseph instead of Leon, he hissed and started to run off.
The animal didn’t go far, gaze landing on Livia in his arms, tail flicking indecisively. Ignoring the cat, Joseph sidestepped him and continued inside. Glancing back at the sound of a half-swallowed grunt, he saw Alpha Rhye limp to a stop long enough to scoop Asshole into his arms.
“She’ll be alright,” his friend reassured softly.
