Chapter 49
Joseph halted the movement of his leg’s restless bouncing for the third time in as many minutes, then growled at Leon when he screeched around a turn, the momentum throwing him sideways against the back passenger door and jostling Livia , sleeping and cradled in his lap. It also sent a fresh wave of agony through his skull, broken ribs, and cracked cheekbone, but that didn’t bother him.
His Loon was still hurt. They’d treated the most severe of the injuries, but she needed rest. Gaze locked on her slack face, he held his breath until he was sure she hadn’t been woken, then glared at his brother through the rearview mirror.
“Drive smoother,” he whisper-yelled at Leon.
Irrationally, the lack of response to his unreasonable demand pissed him off. This was his fucking fault. His fault that soon-to-be-dead prick hurt her.
No being should’ve been able to get close enough to harm a single hair on her pretty head.
