Chapter 17. Mates

Amber’s POV

“I still don’t understand?! How can he be your second chance mate? You still have your first mate. We haven’t had any trouble, and we haven’t rejected each other?!” We are all sitting in a meeting room in the castle, and Chase keeps asking the same questions. I have no answer for them, and I don’t feel like I have to have answers. They are my mates—both of them. And I am not choosing. Even though that would be the obvious answer to all the questions and troubles, I refuse to choose between them.

“I don’t know, Chase. Selene must have picked both of you for me, but I don’t know why?” I answer with a sigh. It’s becoming tiresome to answer the same question again and again.

“I’m sorry, my love. I just don’t understand. No one has two mates. You have one, and can be granted a second chance—but never two at a time.” He says, as he reaches for my hand. I take it and squeeze in reassurance.
