I didn’t encounter Maze the rest of yesterday, and I continued with my duties as a doctor. I met a lot of different pack members, and most of them just treated me like a regular doctor, but some of them knew who I was and most were not really happy with my presence in their pack.

Some of them told me about Mira Rose—Maze’s first mate and more than one told me I would never be his first choice. I would always be second. In the shadow of a woman he lost. Someone he had loved and been friends with ever since childhood.

I went home with a lot of thoughts, and I felt even more confused than before. I decided to let the doubt be a benefit to him, but I would also do some digging on my own. I went to bed with my laptop, and there I read up on the incident two years ago.
