She looked at him out of the corner of her eye and saw that Ian looked surprised at her sudden submission. But he doesn't say a word.
“If your aunts on your father's side live in London, I imagine that your Aunt Anne and cousin Alexis belong to the mother's side?”
“Indeed. My great uncle, had three other daughters, who are married and all live in the area.”
“What about your neighbors? The local gentry? Do they receive much?”
This prospect worried Eden. Having new relationships meant becoming intimate with some of them; which meant other people from whom she would have to constantly hide the truth.
They arrived in front of the Royal Oak, where their car was waiting for them.
“-Well, I don't know,” replied Ian. “They came to the funeral, of course, and gave me condolence visits, but I cannot say that they are close to me.”
