Chapter 79

The mention of Amber's name once again ruined my mood. I couldn't eat anymore because despite being hungry. “She’s a good cook,” I admitted.

“Of course,” Henry agreed with me.

“I’ll do the dishes,” I offered because it was my job.

“No, just leave it,” he ordered.

“Fine!”

“Wait a minute, Chloe.” After noticing my voice's shakiness, Henry inquired.

I lied and said, “I'm just upset about something.”

“Are you acting this way because of Amber? Did you truly fall for Stefan?”

“I'll just go outside for a little while.”

I didn't hold my breath for a reply. I walked outside the house with a can of beer in my hand and headed for the patio. I didn't need to use my phone's flashlight because the moon was so bright. When I got to the patio, I opened my beer and sat on the swing.

I've enjoyed my time in the plantation but lately I've been struggling to make sense of myself. Without fail, my mind kept wandering back to Henry!
