Chapter 23
Sophie
Knock-knock.
I was waiting for permission to enter his study, and he suggested we had a lot to cover before dinner. I needed to talk to him and ensure he understood why I was doing this. Not the real reason, though.
“Come in,” his deep voice called out.
I said a little prayer about entering the lion’s den and coming alive.
I pushed the door open, and my eyes widened. His study was grand. It was lovely as the rest of the house.
“Welcome to my safe space,” he gestured dramatically toward the room.
I scoffed. Only he would take the study as a safe space.
“Thank you.”
I stood there, waiting for him to speak.
“Please have a seat,” he said.
I made myself comfortable on the lounge chair, still waiting for further instructions.
He grabbed a folder from his drawer, “So, apart from the fact that you don’t have any information about yourself, is there anything you would like to tell me?”
