Chapter 79

Sophie

I woke up to an empty bed, and from the looks of it, he barely slept there. I felt so guilty because he was stressing out over the call from my brother, but he wouldn’t talk to me.

He told me he would handle it, and I didn’t ask any other questions. I know he has my best interest at heart, and he wouldn’t do anything to hurt me.

I got out of bed and headed straight to the bathroom to shower. He would be in his study.

The least I could do was make him breakfast. I am sure he has been at this for a while now. He needed to rest.

I got dressed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. There was nothing I could actually cook, but there were options for sandwiches.

I put together one for him, then one for me, and took both plates to his study.

I knocked. “Come in,” his tired voice called out.

I opened the door and peeked. He was with the PI we both spoke to the other day.

“Oh, I didn’t know you were here,” I said to the man.
