“I’m still here,” she whispered. “I haven’t left you. And I won’t ever leave you. But I need you to fight, Moosa. I need you to wake up and come back to me.”
Her voice broke, and she pressed her forehead against his, the tears slipping down her cheeks.
“I can’t lose you too. I can’t.”
For a moment, there was nothing but silence, the hum of the machines filling the room. And then, Roshanay felt it. A faint movement, a twitch of his fingers against hers.
Her heart stopped.
“Moosa?” she breathed, her voice shaking with hope. “Can you hear me?”
But the movement didn’t repeat itself, and his hand lay still in hers. The moment passed, leaving Roshanay with nothing but the echo of a hope that refused to die.
